ASP ASP means or refers to Active Server Pages.
Anchor Text Anchor text allows you to link to another web page; making use of adequate keywords and phrases in your search shows good SEO technique.
CSS This refers to Cascading Style Sheets, which is a type of HTML that allows design rules to be set up for your web page.
DNS Transfer DNS refers to the Domain Name Server, this essentially allows your domain name to be transferred to IP addresses; in other words the registered domain name is moved to a new location. Requesting a domain change allows the domain name to be changed to another hosting service.
Embedded This refers to items becoming a part of the web page; for instance, when a video is embedded in the web page it becomes fixed to the page.
Encryption In order to send text over the internet it is transformed into a code that is unreadable, it will then be reconstructed through decryption or the use of a password to reflect its original form.
E-commerce This refers to electronic commerce and e-business, the former is linked to online selling, whereas the latter refers to business being conducted online.
FTP FTP refers to File Transfer Protocol, which is the method that is used to transfer files. Files can be transferred from your computer to an online server, and vice versa.
Flash The design tool Adobe® Flash® is referred to when the term flash is used. This design program can be used solely to build a website, or elements of flash may be applied to the web page. Interactivity and animation is added using flash.
Fluid Design The way your web page is set up can be referred to as fluid or liquid design, even if the page width fits the size of the browser window, it will be resized to fit the span of the window's width.
GIF GIF refers to Graphics Interchange Format, which is a suitable format for non photographic use.
HTML HTML refers to Hypertext Markup Language, which is a commonly used coding language that is implemented when a website is produced.
Hotspot This refers to the action that takes place when you move your mouse over or click an area on an image.
Hyperlink This is a link to another web page or a link to a part within an open web page.
IP Address This is referred to as Internet Protocol, which is an identity number that is given to every computer that connects to the internet.
Image Map This refers to a link or action that is created on an area of an image.
Image Optimization In order to make files smaller in size they will go through a process of image slicing and resolution reduction, this allows the files to be loaded faster.
Index Page When a search engine searches for the content of a website it will index the content of the site, this will allow the search engine to find the index page, also known as the home page.
JPEG JPEG means Joint Photographic Experts Group, which refers to the standard of compression.
Keywords These are the words that are used in a search engine to find desired content.
Key Phrase When using a search engine, key phrases are used to find content, these phrases are a key to finding content on a particular subject.
PHP Refers to Hypertext Preprocessor, which is a scripting language that is similar to Active Server Pages (ASP).
MYSQL This is a database server that can be used for applications that are both large and small.
MYPEG MYPEG refers to Moving Picture Experts Group, which relates to a standard of compression.
Meta Tags To understand the content of a website, search engine spiders make use of Meta Tags.
Mockup A graphics program is used by website designers to give you a mockup of the finished product; this will give you an idea of how your index page (home page) will look.
Navigation On each page of the website you will normally find a navigation bar or navigation buttons, which allow you to navigate through the website's content.
Perl This refers to a programming language that is used to complete a number of tasks.
Resolution Web page or computer images use dots per inch (dpi) that relate to the quality of the image i.e. a higher dpi provides a higher quality of image; resolution is used to refer to the image's clarity.
RSS RSS can be used to refer to Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. Essentially, RSS means that news is updated in an automated way; the user can receive updated information by installing a RSS reader on their computer, and subscribing to the RSS feed or source.
SEO SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. This is used to optimise the ranking of your website, through the use of source codes throughout the website's design. The better your SEO the easier it will be for search engines to index your website. When certain keywords or keyword phrases are used the SEO techniques will improve your website's position.
Site Map The structure and layout of the website pages are visually illustrated in a site map, which is usually used for large websites.
SMPT SMPT refers to Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, which is used for the sending of e-mail messages.
Spam This refers to an electronic message that is unsolicited.
Template This is a pre-made design template that reduces the cost of designing a website. However, your design can have a unique look and feel if your website designer modifies the template.
URL URL refers to Uniform Resource Locator, which is a resource or webpage address.
Stickiness This refers to the website's ability to obtain and retain visitors.
WYSIWYG WYSIWYG this refers to a website editor known as What You See Is What You Get. WYSIWYG editor is a word processor that allows text, image and graphic layout to be converted into a HTML.
