Below are a number of Free Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tools that the industry uses to establish various SEO factors about a website.

Backlink Check

Backlinks are extremely important for SEO. The more backlinks that you have going to your site the better. You can create backlinks by blogging about your company, listing on directories etc. This is a good SEO tool to see how you fair. 

Alexa

This is an SEO tool to use to establish yours site's general user statistics. You can also use this to establish what the user statistics are for your competitors. Note though that the results display your site as it was about 1 -3 months ago and the results are not real time reflective.

Google Trends

Google trends let's you know what people are searching for in the internet in terms of the keywords they are typing in. It will also assist you with establishing search volumes for certain keywords. 

Bing Webmaster Tools

This SEO tool will allow you to load your site onto Bing and to check how many pages on your website have been indexed by Bing. You will need to login in to access this information.

Copyscape Plagiarism Checker

Use this SEO tool to find out if someone else is copying your content and passing it off as their own. If someone else is using your content, send them a legal "cease and desist" letter, failing which sue them. Duplicate content is very bad for SEO performance, so if someone is duplicating your content and passing it off as their own, you need to stop this or it will affect your SEO. 

Wayback Machine

Use this SEO tool to establish if your content was copied or if someone in your organization copied another site's content and passed it off as their own. Note though that this tool doesn't pick up original content which has been written in the last 6 months. So if the plagiarizing happened on an article less than 6 months ago it won't pick it up. 

Who Is CO.ZA

Who Is, is a domain registration and domain owner tool which can help you establish who owns the domain, how old a domain is and what the relevant contact details are for a specific domain. 

Google Webmaster Tools

This SEO tool will allow you to load your site onto Google and to check how many pages on your website have been indexed by Google. You will need to login in to access this information.

Yahoo Site Explorer

This SEO tool will allow you to load your site onto Yahoo and to check how many pages on your website have been indexed by Yahoo. You will need to login in to access this information.

iWeb Tool Multi-Rank Checker

Use this SEO tool to compare your site against 9 of your competitors in terms of Page Rank and Alexa Rating.

Link Tiger

Broken links are very bad for SEO. Use the Link Tiger SEO Tool to check your sites for all links and especially the broken links. This SEO Tool also gives you a full downloadable link report.
